The Opportunity

Are you a recent or soon-to-be Mechanical Engineering graduate eager to apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges? This is an exceptional opportunity to launch your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.

As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Jayben, you won’t be just a number. You will be an integral part of our engineering team, contributing to high-stakes projects from day one. Our graduate pathway is designed to give you broad exposure across the entire project lifecycle – from initial concept and 3D modelling to seeing your designs being machined, fabricated, and assembled on our workshop floor. With dedicated mentorship from our experienced senior engineers, you will build a strong foundation for a successful and rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Drafting: Assist in the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks/Inventor).
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform fundamental engineering calculations and simulations (e.g., stress analysis, FEA) under the guidance of senior engineers to validate designs.
  • Manufacturing Liaison: Collaborate closely with our CNC machinists, fabricators, and assembly technicians to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable (DFM), and meet quality standards.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including technical drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Participate in the hands-on building, testing, and validation of prototypes to ensure they meet performance and client specifications.
  • Problem Solving: Contribute to root cause analysis and develop effective solutions for technical challenges that arise during production or testing.
  • Project Support: Assist Project Managers with tasks such as scheduling, progress reporting, and communication with suppliers and clients.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively identify and suggest opportunities for improving products, processes, and safety within the engineering and manufacturing departments.

Skills & Attributes

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or a related discipline (completed within the last 2 years or due for completion by end of 2025).
  • A strong academic foundation in mechanical engineering principles (e.g., statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science).
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a logical and analytical mindset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude, a high level of self-motivation, and a genuine passion for engineering.
  • Must hold full, unrestricted Australian working rights.
  • Crucially, you must be an Australian Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.

Desirable:

  • Practical, hands-on experience through internships, co-op programs, or personal projects (e.g., Formula SAE, robotics, restoration projects).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, and fabrication.
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • A current Australian driver’s license.

What We Offer

  • A structured graduate development pathway with dedicated mentorship and regular performance reviews.
  • The opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects for major national clients.
  • A supportive, collaborative, and safety-focused team culture.
  • A competitive graduate salary package.
  • Real opportunities for career progression and professional development within a growing Australian company.
  • The satisfaction of seeing your engineering work come to life in a tangible way.
